Chongqing's Foreign Trade Exceeds 30 Billion USD during the First Half of 2013

According to Chongqing Customs and Chongqing Foreign Trade & Economic Relations Commission (or Chongqing FTERC), during the first half of 2013, the total foreign trade volume of Chongqing hit 30.16 billion USD, up by 20.4% over the same period of last year. The export volume amounted to 20.97 billion USD, an increase of 15.5%, and the import volume was 9.19 billion USD, growing by 33.4%. These figures made Chongqing rank 10th in China for the first six months of 2013. It is the first time that the city is becoming one of the Top 10 in China; besides, Chongqing also tops 12 provinces and cities in western China.
 
As pointed out by an official from Chongqing Customs, the processing trade in Chongqing saw continuous robust growth during the first half of 2013. The total volumes of foreign trade, export and import were respectively 12.94 billion, 10.72 billion and 2.22 billion USD, climbing by 65.9%, 53% and 1.8 folds.
 
As per the source from Chongqing FTERC, a series of effective measures taken during the first half of 2013 contributed to the tremendous growth of foreign trade, which has boosted more import and export. For instance, substantial results have been reached in building export bases, service platforms and overseas marketing network. Loncin registered over 100 million USD export volume each month and the export of automobiles maintained a growth of over 50%. Strong export and import agents have settled in Chongqing. An additional 500 foreign trade companies have located here. Traditional industries have been upgraded. Meanwhile, strategic emerging industries have been developed and the reserve of resource products has been expanded, while the import of consumer goods has been increased. Import growth rate is 26.7 percentage points higher than the national average.
