Chongqing is the only city in west China that allows foreign media to station. Six foreign news agencies have set up their offices in Chongqing. Recently, Tang Wen, deputy director of Foreign Affair Office of Chongqing Municipal People's Government reveals that the diplomatic approval procedures for the Philippines to set up the Consulate General in Chongqing have been gone through and the Philippines is preparing for opening the Consulate General. The Consulate General of the Philippines will become the 6th consulate in Chongqing, thus Chongqing is more open and attractive.
According to the Foreign Affair Office of Chongqing Municipal People's Government, Chongqing Proper became a A-level opening area with the approval from the State Council in June 1978. Along with the extension of opening scope, the Central Government approved to open Xiushan Autonomous County and Youyang Autonomous County to foreigners in 1998. Up till then, Chongqing, covering 40 districts/counties has completely been opened to foreigners.
