On September 25, launch ceremony of the regularly started train on the “Chongqing-Guizhou-Guangxi-Xinjiang” Southward Rail-Sea Transportation Channel was staged in the railway section in Chongqing, an achievement of the China-Singapore interconnectivity project.
Chen Min’er, Secretary of the CPC Chongqing Municipal Committee, announced departure of the train. Zhang Guoqing, Deputy Secretary of the CPC Chongqing Municipal Committee and Mayor of Chongqing Municipality, delivered his speech. Wang Xiangang and Chen Heping, municipal leaders, participated in this ceremony. Liu Guiping, Deputy Mayor of Chongqing Municipality, was the link presenter.
At 10:30, with Chen Min’er declaring the departure of the regularly operated train, 27 whistling carriages full of parts for motors and motorcycles as well as other goods departed for Qinzhou Port, Guangxi. “Chongqing-Guizhou-Guangxi-Xinjiang” Southward Rail-Sea Transportation Channel plays a significant role in the international logistics channel for China-Singapore interconnectivity. This channel starts from Chongqing and travels southward through many coastal and border ports like Guangxi. Combining several transportation means like by rail, road and sea, this channel is an integrated international trade and logistics channel which connects the Silk Road Economic Belt and the 21st-Century Maritime Silk Road in a harmonious way. According to relative plans, two pairs of such regularly started trains will run each week and the frequency will be increased step by step.
Zhang Guoqing mentioned in his speech the meeting between Xi Jinping, President of the PRC and Lee Hsien Loong, Prime Minister of Singapore, during which Xi expressed his sincere hope that concerted efforts could be made by China and Singapore to develop the Singapore-China (Chongqing) strategic interconnectivity demonstration project and lead regional-level joint participation of other countries in constructing new land and ocean channels for international trade. “Chongqing-Guizhou-Guangxi-Xinjiang” Southward Channel is a part of China-Singapore interconnectivity project. Its opening marks the specific efforts made to implement the strategic consensus between leadership of the two countries. Taking Chongqing as the operation center and other related provinces as well as districts as major links, “Chongqing-Guizhou-Guangxi-Xinjiang” Southward Channel is the result of cooperation with ASEAN countries like Singapore to establish integrated international trade and logistics channel, which is of great strategic importance for Chongqing to advance its development of inland open economy and better integrate itself into economic cooperation with ASEAN. Each part is expected to persist in the principle of “under the leading of government, guidance of enterprises and operation through market”. Through innovations in policies and systems, constant efforts should be made to improve basic facilities step by step, strengthen freight management and optimize operation mechanism. Each part should also devote themselves in increasing frequency of running trains, improving trains’ effectiveness and building the brand of international land-sea trade channel in a bid to make new contribution to the establishment of the Belt and Road as well as development of the Yangtze River Economic Belt.
Other participants in this launch ceremony included persons-in-charge of Chengdu Railway Bureau, Shapingba District, relevant departments of the municipal government as well as other related departments.
