The 3rd Joint Implementation Committee Meeting of China – Singapore (Chongqing) Demonstration Initiative on Strategic Connectivity is Held in Chongqing

    The 3rd Joint Implementation Committee Meeting of China – Singapore (Chongqing) Demonstration Initiative on Strategic Connectivity (hereinafter referred to as the Initiative) was held on August 31 in Chongqing. Chan Chun Sing, Minister in Prime Minister's Office of Singapore, and Zhang Guoqing, Mayor of Chongqing, co-chaired the meeting.
    The meeting agenda covered affirming the minutes of the 2nd Joint Implementation Committee Meeting; keeping abreast of the implementation progress of the Initiative; studying two major projects (i.e. the Multimodal Transport and the Southern Transport Corridor); checking up the progress of the items agreed on at the 2nd meeting; discussing about the next work plan.
    Chan said that China and Singapore had a long-standing, profound and broad-based relationship. After having an in-depth discussion on the Initiative, the leaders of the two sides were confident in driving the Initiative and gave it a full affirmation. The Southern Transport Corridor of the Initiative connects Chongqing and Singapore, thus boosting the connectivity and trade between western China and ASEAN regions. Singapore-based enterprises would enjoy business opportunities brought by the Southern Transport Corridor and participate in the development of such sectors as transportation and logistics in western China. Enterprises of the two sides were expected to continue to expanding and deepening their cooperation on the Southern Transport Corridor in a bid to elevate the cooperation between the two countries a higher level.
    Zhang indicated that, the two sides, according to the agreements signed by and between China and Singapore, maintained a close communication, propelled the establishment of a three-level cooperation mechanism, initially drawn up some major plans, issued a series of innovative initiatives, such as China’s 57 supporting policies and Singapore’s “8+3” project, and concluded agreements on 90 key projects, with a total of nearly USD 20 billion, representing that the Initiative plays a demonstrative, wide-spread and guiding role. A range of achievements were made and consensuses reached at the 3rd joint implementation committee meeting which was tightly scheduled. In the future, both sides, based upon General Secretary Xi Jinping’s requirements of “From a high starting point, promoting the China – Singapore Demonstration Initiative on Strategic Connectivity in high-level and innovative way”,  will strive to turn visions into actions, implement specific projects based on special plans, drive the favorable interaction between the policy innovation and the project implementation, continue to expand and deepen the cooperation, and encourage the government and the public to make concerted efforts to make great achievements by the Initiative, benefiting people from the two countries.
    Participants also attended the Inauguration of the “1+1” Multimodal Transportation & Logistics Demonstration Project of the China – Singapore (Chongqing) Demonstration Initiative on Strategic Connectivity. Yeung Lei Ming (Yang Liming), Minister in Prime Minister's Office and Second Minister for Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Ministry of Manpower, the Republic of Singapore, Chui Fong Tat (Xu Fangda), Senior Minister of State, Ministry of Communication, Information and Ministry of Health, Loh Kam Yin (Luo Jinxian), Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Trade and Industry, Loh Ka Leung (Luo Jialiang), Ambassador of the Republic of Singapore to the People's Republic of China, some leaders from Ministry of Commerce of the People’s Republic of China, Zhang Xiaoqin, Vice-president of the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, Lu Yongzheng, Vice-governor of Guizhou Province, representatives from Gansu Province and three leaders from Chongqing including Wu Cunrong, Chen Lvping and Liu Guiping attended the meeting.
