Grading List for China's Cities Unveiled, Chongqing Included in the List “New First-tier” Cities

The continuous extremely hot weather is finally about to cool down, which is so exhilarating. However, what is even more exciting is that Chongqing has become a new “first-tier city”! CBN Weekly released the complete list of China City Level a few days ago, with 15 cities, including Chongqing, becoming new “first-tier” cities following the 4 “old first-tier” cities – namely Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou and Shenzhen.
Which cities are the “new first-tier cities”?
Regional central cities or coastal cities
On the newly released ranking list, in addition to Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou and Shenzhen, the 4 “old first-tier” cities, 15 “new first-tier” cities have come out upon reevaluation: Chengdu, Hangzhou, Wuhan, Tianjin, Nanjing, Chongqing, Xi'an, Changsha, Qingdao, Shenyang, Dalian, Xiamen, Suzhou, Ningbo and Wuxi.
Some of these cities are municipalities with a solid economic foundation, a huge middle class population and considerable political resource. Some are regional central cities with radiating capacity over several nearby provinces, abundant education resources, profound cultural accumulation and convenient transportation. Others are provincial capitals and coastal open cities of the eastern developed area with favorable economic foundations, convenient transportation and unique city charm. These cities are naturally the strategic areas for many big companies.
The international fame of these “new first-tier” cities is also increasing. For example, the G20 Summit is set to be held in Hangzhou next month, and the 2016 World Tourism Cities Federation Tourism Summit will soon be held in Chongqing.
How to become a “new first-tier” city?
Evaluation from 5 dimensions including business
How did Chongqing make the “new first-tier” list? There are reasons for that! As early as 3 years ago, CBN Weekly put forward the concept of “new first-tier” city for the first time. This year, they collected store distribution of 160 brands and user data of 14 internet companies in 338 cities above the prefecture level in China, and reevaluated the commercial charm of Chinese cities from the 5 dimensions of concentration of business resources, urban hub, urban population activity, lifestyle diversity and future potential.
In terms of the scoring standard, say scores of Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou and Shenzhen are 100, 100, 98 and 97, Chongqing gets 90.6, ranked 6th among the new first-tier cities and 10th in China.
