China International Friendship Cities Conference 2016 Unveils in Chongqing

---------Li Yuanchao Makes a Keynote Speech and Sun Zhengcai is Present
    On November 10, 2016, China International Friendship Cities Conference 2016 unveiled.
    On the morning of November 10, 2016, China International Friendship Cities Conference 2016, co-organized by the Chinese People’s Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries, China International Friendship Cities Association and Chongqing Municipal People’s Government, unveiled at Chongqing Yuelai International Convention Center. Li Yuanchao, a member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Vice President of the People’s Republic of China, attended the opening ceremony and made a keynote speech. Sun Zhengcai, a member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Secretary of CPC Chongqing Municipal Committee, attended the opening ceremony.
    Edward Ssekandi, Vice President of Uganda, Yukio Hatoyama, former Prime Minister of Japan, and Wim Kok, former Prime Minister of the Netherlands, attended the opening ceremony and made speeches.
    Since its first holding in 2008, China International Friendship Cities Conference has become an important channel for the opening-up of cities around the world and has provided a vast platform for people around the world to conduct people-to-people and cultural exchanges, achieve people-to-people bond, deepen pragmatic cooperation and promote economic development. More than 400 foreign representatives from 144 cities of 56 countries and 51 city organizations and over 200 Chinese representatives from China’s 107 cities attended this conference themed “Innovation for Development and Cooperation for Sharing”.
    In his speech, Li Yuanchao said that President Xi Jinping had pointed out that we should attach great importance to the work related to China’s international friendship cities and promote the exchange between local governments of China and other countries to provide momentum for achieving resources sharing, complement of mutual advantages and mutual benefit.  He hoped that international friendly cities could expand exchange fields, enrich exchange forms and deepen mutual understanding and friendship of people around the world. Besides, the international cities could share experience in city planning and construction, improve foresight and scientificity of city planning, strengthen habitability and sustainability of city construction and boost modernity and refinement of city management to provide more convenient, more comfortable and better city life for the general public. The cities should expand cooperation of mutual benefit to achieve mutual progress and jointly develop and share city civilization. He also said that China held high the banner of peace, development, cooperation and mutual benefit, actively promoted friendly exchange of people in China and other countries and hoped to jointly build the bridge of friendship and mutual benefit with other countries, boost the construction of community of human destiny and together promote world peace and development through the exchange between international friendly cities.
    In his speech, Edward Ssekandi, Vice President of Uganda, said that we got together today to discuss how to improve our life and keep an environment for sustainable development for future generations. In recent years, many cities in China had established friendly cities relationship with cities in other countries, conducted international exchange and cooperation on the basis of mutual respect and got fruitful results. He hoped that this conference could better promote the cooperation between cities, deepen exchange between local governments, strengthen nongovernmental contact and facilitate the establishment of more friendly cities.
    In his speech, Yukio Hatoyama, former Prime Minister of Japan, said that he was pleased to attend the China International Friendly Cities Conference in Chongqing, an important city in China’s west region, and apologized for the bombing of Chongqing conducted by Japanese troops during Japan’s invasion to China in the past.
    As a municipality directly under the central government, Chongqing had become the central city of China’s inland areas and would play an important role in “the Belt and Road Initiative. This Conference held in Chongqing could better facilitate exchange between different countries, enhance friendly relationship, implement cooperation projects and promote common progress.
    Wim Kok, former Prime Minister of the Netherlands, said in his speech that the cooperation among cities around the world was very important for cities to boost innovation, respond to challenges and achieve sustainable development. By establishing friendly relationship, we could achieve inclusive growth and share opportunities through sharing information. He thanked this conference for providing an opportunity for people to exchange ideas about cooperation between cities, enabling people who are concerned about this to establish deeper and vaster relation and promoting better cooperation and common development between cities.
    Li Xiaolin, Chairman of the Chinese People’s Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries and China International Friendship Cities Association, said that this conference not only summarized the exchange between international cities in the past years, but also made plans for future development of friendly cities. She hoped that through broad dialog and deep communication, all the guests could provide more ideas and strategies for achieving Innovation for Development and Cooperation for Sharing” between different countries, regions and cities.
    Huang Qifan, Mayor of Chongqing, said in his speech that Chongqing was promoting innovation in developing philosophy, science and technology, system and mechanism and business model in accordance with the requirements of implementing the strategy of innovation-driven development. With the ideas of Innovation for Development and Cooperation for Sharing”, we expected to work with all the friendly cities, strengthen communication and exchange, promote resource sharing and mutual benefit and bring more welfare to people all around the world.
    Zhang Ming, Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs of the People's Republic of China, Zhang Guoqing, Deputy Secretary of the CPC Chongqing Municipal Committee, and municipal leaders Zhang Ming and Liu Guiping attended this opening ceremony.
