The 9th Annual Meeting of Chongqing Mayor’s International Economic Advisory Council Takes Place

The city welcomes all guests from all over the world in September. On September 21, the 9th Annual Meeting of Chongqing Mayor’s International Economic Advisory Council was held in Chongqing International Convention and Exhibition Centre. The presiding chairman of the annual meeting and Michael Smith, CEO of ANZ Banking Group, delivered their speeches. The mayor Huang Qifan gave a keynote speech. Centering on the theme of “smart city and big data era”, participant advisors and guests expressed many wise ideas and thoughts.
Michael Smith said: We should ensure to provide an environment-friendly and comfortable environment for residents in the city in the digital era, so that the city will have sustainable development. More importantly, we should promote the construction of “smart city” to create a more intelligentization city. Such “smart city” will provide effective solutions for all kinds of issues arisen from traffic jam, population expansion and the processes of industrialization and urbanization. The acceleration of “smart city” construction and the development of big data industry are complementary. Just because of this, Chongqing Municipal Government endeavors to develop the big data industry and carry forward the construction of “smart city”. You all have rich experience, so I hope you can give some advice for the construction of “smart city” of Chongqing, so that more people will benefit from big data.
Huang Qifan said, when China begins to develop in a “New Normal” state, the construction of “smart city” will facilitate internationalization development, drive transformation of development mode and promote the adjustment of economic structure. In addition, it deeply impacts and changes the production method and life style of people, leading to more scientific development, effective management, harmonious society and beautiful life of the city. Based on such an understanding, Chongqing lays an emphasis on the deep integration of big data processing with inland opening-up, industrial upgrading, urban management and services that benefit people, and conducts an active survey on the construction of “smart city”. Chongqing will formulate an overall construction planning. Based on people-oriented principle, it focuses on environmental protection, low carbon emission, convenience and high efficiency, and works out all kinds of industrial standards to clean up barriers during the construction of “smart city”. Nowadays, Chongqing is constructing application platforms respectively for government affairs, people benefited information, credit system and social governance, which are connected to “information isolated island” to realize resource sharing. We will establish all kinds of complete institutional rules and regulations related to informatization, to realize the sharing of basic data, independent industrial management and controllable information security. In addition, relevant social culture will be developed.
Since 2006, The Ninth Annual Meeting of Chongqing Mayor’s International Economic Advisory Council has been successfully held for 8 times. As a high-end platform of Chongqing for friendly exchange with global top 500 enterprises, it plays an important role in strengthening the communication of Chongqing with the world and promoting the economic and social development of Chongqing. This annual meeting was attended by 17 international economic advisors including Michael Smith, CEO of ANZ Banking Group; Nobuyuki Koga, president of Nomura; Gerard Mestrallet, CEO of Suez Environment; Bruno Lafont, CEO of Lafarge; Osamu Suzuki, chairman and CEO of Suzuki Suzuki; Takashi Kawamura, top advisor of Hitachi; Susumu Hosoi, president of Isuzu Motors Ltd.; Masami Lijima, president of Mitsui; Zheng Junyang, chairman of POSCO; Sumi Shuzo, chairman of Tokio Marine Holdings, Inc. It was also participated by delegates from 11 corporations including Ford, Jardine Matheson and Liberty Insurance; 3 advisory agents including Carl Grivner, CEO of PACNET, Vincent Lo, chairman of Shui On Group and Zhang Ruling, president of Sodefinance & Partners S.A.; and 1 representative of advisory agents. Around the theme of the annual meeting, the 32 participants including mayor’s economic advisors, advisory agents and representative had a deep discussion about special topics, such as “further promotion of international competitiveness in Chongqing during the big data era and construction of smart city”, “technical support for development of big data industry and construction of smart city”, and “construction of smart city and system for guaranteeing the development of big data industry”. They also proposed quite many available suggestions.
This year, Robert Mao, vice chairman of global HP has become the new member of Chongqing mayor’s international economic advisors. He has been granted a letter of appointment by the mayor Huang Qifan.
Deputy Mayors including Wu Gang, Chen Heping, Liu Qiang, Tan Jialing and Liu Wei are also present at the annual meeting.
