Chongqing and University of British Columbia Start Strategic Cooperation

Recently, Stephen J. Toope, president of the University of British Columbia, lead a delegation of 12 people to visit Chongqing. Wu Gang, vice mayor of Chongqing, met with President Stephen J. Toope’s team, exchanged views with Canada on matters relating to cooperation and put forward five proposals for cooperation. During the days in Chongqing, University of British Columbia signed a strategic cooperation agreement with Chongqing Municipality, and signed agreements on implementation of specific cooperation with Chongqing University, Southwest University, Southwest University of Political Science and Law and Sichuan International Studies University.
In recent years, Chongqing promotes the cooperation between Chongqing’s universities and elite universities around the world and takes it as an important tool to implement educational internationalization strategy, further promote the reform of higher education and improve the level of higher education. As the first batch of universities participating in the collaboration, 8 colleges and universities including Chongqing University, Southwest University, Southwest University of Political Science and Law, Sichuan International Studies University, carry out in-depth cooperation and exchanges on urban planning and sustainable development, education, law, medicine, life sciences, engineering, management, arts and other key areas through activities such as cooperation in running schools, curriculum cooperation, academic innovation, joint research, faculty exchange visits, etc.
