Chongqing Cultural Delegation Attends the First Xochimilco Chinese Cultural Festival 2013 in Mexico
Recently, the First Xochimilco Chinese Cultural Festival 2013 raised the curtain in the capital of Mexico. It was jointly organized by Office of Cultural Affairs of Embassy of PRC in Mexico, China Cultural Center of Mexico, and Regional Government of Xochimilco.
Zeng Gang, Chinese ambassador to Mexico, Camara, the Regional Governor of Xochimilco, Zhao Mingquan, Assistant Counsel of Chongqing Culture Radio and Television Bureau and other honored guests from China and Mexico attended the opening ceremony of the First Xochimilco Chinese Cultural Festival 2013 and cut the ribbon for the farmers’ arts exhibition - “Dream Realization” - and picture exhibition of urban civilization. Hundreds of people, including Mexican friends from all walks of life and the Chinese living in Mexico, were also attracted to the opening ceremony.
Among the 10-plus exhibition booths set up in this cultural festival, four booths featuring outstanding characteristics of southwestern China attracted large crowds of local Mexicans. These booths presented lifelike sugar painting, farmers’ colorful printmaking of Qijiang River, vivid dough modeling and extremely skillful paper-cutting. Liu Guibing, Li Chengzhi, Tan Xianhua and Yang Ling are inheritors of intangible cultural heritages. Artistic works were created by them with ordinary materials such as sugar, dough and paper which seemed magical to local Mexican audience at the site and drew rounds of loud applause now and then.
As an exchanging municipality with China Cultural Center of Mexico in 2013, Chongqing sent a delegation of 10 people coming from Chongqing Culture Radio and Television Bureau, Chongqing China Three Gorges Museum, Chongqing Art Performance Group, Chongqing Academy of Culture and Arts, Chongqing International Center of Cultural Exchanges, as well as Chongqing Library. Meanwhile, Chongqing cultural delegation was also honored as the very first Chinese cultural exchange delegation to visit ever since the establishment of China Cultural Center of Mexico.
This cultural festival will last till the 21st. Apart from showcasing handicrafts of traditional Chongqing intangible cultural heritage, and farmers’ arts exhibition - Dream Realization - from the archive of Chongqing China Three Gorges Museum, an urban picture exhibition titled City, Civilization and Chongqing Impression will be held as well. What’s more, the Mexican and Chinese Union Art Troupe made up of Chinese people in Mexico will put on wonderful performances for local Mexicans.
