Contract Signed for Global Printing and Imaging Device Manufacturing Base of Chongqing

Zhang Dejiang, member of the Political Bureau of CPC Central Committee, Vice Premier of the State Council and Secretary of CPC Chongqing Municipal Committee, met with the delegation of Hewlett-Packard Components Group led by Meg Whitman, president and CEO of the company on April 17, and attended the signing ceremony of Global Printing and Imaging Device Manufacturing Base of Chongqing.

During the meeting, Zhang Dejiang expressed high appreciation that HP has always taken China as the priority in its global investment and strategic development and proactively participated in the development of Western China. He said that HP, as a world-renown information technology enterprise, was the first American enterprise establishing Sino-US high-tech joint venture and its products and technologies were wildly known. HP had invested to build the Global Software Service (Chongqing) Center, the Global Testing and Service Center, and the Global Computer Production Base and Settlement Center, etc. in Chongqing since 2005. HP’ decision in launching the printing and imaging project in Chongqing this time further reflected intentions of the two sides of sincere and practical cooperation in a win-win manner. We warmly welcome HP’ investment and would lend all-out support for its development in Chongqing, by working closely in respect of research, development, production, settlement and service.

Zhang Dejiang said that Chongqing as the only municipality directly under the central government in middle and western China had great potential for development. Its priority henceforth currently is to transform the pattern of economic development and accelerate industrialization while adhering to rational perspectives on development. One of the critical ways led to this goal is to enhance external cooperation. We would continue to expand the opening up to the outside, maintain consistency and stability in politics, improve investment environment and intensify efforts to attract foreign investment, so as to introduce more world-leading enterprises to seek development and share business opportunities in Chongqing.

Whitman indicated that HP regarded Chongqing as one of the focuses in China and it would strengthen bilateral relations with Chongqing, expand the fields and areas for cooperation and increase investment in Chongqing, aiming at favoring development of industrial cooperation.

After the meeting, Zhang Dejiang and Meg Whitman were present at “signing ceremony of Global Printing and Imaging Device Manufacturing Base of Chongqing” held by Chongqing, HP and Foxconn. Huang Qifan, major of Chongqing Municipality, Todd Bradiey, executive vice-president of HP and president of Printing and Information Product Group and Zhang Bangjie, vice president of Foxconn Technology Group addressed the ceremony respectively. According to Huang Qifan, HP and Foxconn created the manufacturing base of printing and imaging devices in Chongqing, because they were confident about future development and investment advantages of Chongqing. The Chongqing government would exert full support and service to the construction of the base. Todd Bradiey and Zhang Bangjie also declared that they would fulfill their commitment to increase their investments in Chongqing and open up new cooperation with mutual benefit.
According to the agreement, it is believed that HP located the global manufacturing base of printing and imaging devices in Chongqing and Foxconn shall be responsible for manufacture on an OEM basis. Chongqing, HP and Foxconn will work together to build a manufacturing base of 30 million sets of ink-jet printers. The construction of the base and the induction of related OEMs and supporting manufacturers will add one more information industry cluster to Chongqing.
